FLOOR CARE TIPS
Hardwood floors can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Follow the following steps to keep your floors beautiful for years.
Cleaning your floor
1. Vacuum, dry mop or sweep to remove any loose dirt or grit. The best method of removing dirt and grit is vacuuming with a soft brush attachment on your vacuum. If using the microfiber mop to dry mop, remove any loose dirt or grit after dry-mopping by rinsing with water and wringing out the mop pad prior to cleaning floor with Magnus Anderson Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Do not use any wax or cleaner that must be mixed with water, such as oil soap. Also, do nut use wax, polish, abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring pads. Using these items for cleaning may ruin your floor and result in the loss of the warranty for your floor’s finish.
2. Lightly mist a 4' x 6' area of your floor or directly mist the cleaning pad with Magnus Anderson Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Our water based, non-toxic cleaner is specially formulated for your home’s floors. Unlike all-purpose cleaners and oil soaps, they leave no residue while effectively cleaning tough stains and spills. Used with Magnus Anderson microfiber mops, our cleaners are the perfect solution for educated homeowners. Mist Clean Rinse microfiber pad often to avoid streaking.
3. Using a slightly dampened, well wrung-out Magnus Anderson Microfiber cleaning pad, thoroughly clean the floor surface using your microfiber mop. Finish one area before moving on to the next. When your mop pad becomes soiled, rinse with water, thoroughly wring out the pad and continue cleaning with Magnus Anderson Hardwood Floor Cleaner. When the mop pad becomes excessively soiled, launder and replace with another clean mop pad. Continued use of excessively soiled pads may cause streaking.
Your Magnus Anderson Microfiber cleaning pads are reusable and washable. Do not use any fabric softeners, dryer sheets or bleach on your Microfiber cleaning pad as these products will diminish the natural cleaning characteristics of the microfiber.
When a spill occurs, soak up the liquid right away. Mist the area with cleaner, and wipe with your Magnus Anderson Microfiber mop or a Microfiber Floor Cloth.
Preventing cracks or buckling of wood planks
Try to maintain an indoor relative humidity level of 40% to 60% throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction of wood. Extremely low humidity can cause cracks to develop between planks of wood. High humidity can cause wood to expand which can create buckling or ridges to form between planks. During the winter a humidifier can increase the humidity of your house. In the summer, air conditioning or a dehumidifier will reduce humidity. This is especially important during the winter or when using a wood stove or electric heat, which tends to cause very dry conditions.
Removing hardwood stains
Try the following approaches to remove stains caused by dye, ink, rust, urine, blood, grease or oil.
